Maya Adjustable Pouch?

So instead of buying one of the cute pouches I had been looking at, I found an excellent deal on a plain, boring, khaki colored Maya pouch. I haven't had a chance to try it with DD yet, but I was wondering where the extra folded up fabric goes. Do I put it up higher on my shoulder like padding, or do I let it just hang down lower? I have no idea if that makes any sense, but I just can't figure it out from looking at it.
