View Full Version : Prettiest Slings/Pouches?

Hi all! I'm seldom found in here, but with #2 on the way, I'm getting an early start on my shopping. :) I'm thinking a sling will be a great solution for those first few months with the new baby + my active toddler, both for around the house and for errands. I'm having a scheduled c-section, so I'd rather lift a single, lightweight stroller for Gabe than a double stroller that first couple months.
What I'm looking for:
I'm 5'2" and big busted/waisted/hipped. I want something GORGEOUS. Our baby will be born in October, which usually means temps in the 60-70's here in Georgia. It seldom gets below the 30's or 20's in the winter. I'm typically not much of an outdoors person, but Gabe loves being outside, so we might spend more time out there than I plan on. I tend to wear a lot of browns and greens (no chartreuse though), and I steer clear from oranges, bright pinks, yellows, golds, etc. I'd also like something that I could nurse in. Patterns are great, and I have no objections to any of the silk patterns. I do not, however, want anything that looks crunchy. I can pull off a nice Bohemian look, but don't want to go too far on the crunchy side of that. Does that make sense?
I'd love some suggestions for really pretty slings and pouches. I'd also plan on getting a "quick" pouch/sling for regular use and maybe a wrap for when I'm chasing my toddler around? I'm new to babywearing, so I'm open to your guidance!
Thanks in advance!

I have this the fuschia Oopa. The color is gorgeous and the sling is very well made and comfy. It has brown stitching so it would complement with wardrobe well.
I also have a cotton Zolo and would highly recommend them.

The tail looks pretty long. There's one picture on the site where it's almost by the mother's ankle (photo below). Are they all that long in real life? I'm just concerned that it will be too long with my short height!

I'm not sure, but I do know you could get it shortened if that was all that was holding you back.

Sounds great! I think I'll definitely be getting one of these. The styles and patterns are totally up my alley. I hope that July co-op comes through!
I'm also digging the Peanut Shell at Goo-Ga.com. I like the Hot Dot Flip for my pouch.

A favorite of mine is Chic Papoose www.chicpapoose.com -- stylish, reversible, cotton non adjustable pouches...
Rev Jan seems to be getting ready to roll out some silk duponi ring slings, much less than oopas and with her (apparently) wonderful pleated shoulder construction. http://www.sleepingbaby.net/shop/products.php?id=11 (Been toying with the idea of one for myself, don't know if I can justify it with a 15 month old :)).
FWIW, I had a silk brocade kozy made by kelley, www.kozycarrier.com -- but I'd not recommend a mei tai for a new babe (just my opinion).
Good luck!

I'm new to babywearing as well (actually, I'm a first-time mom, so I'm new to mothering in general) and I got a hotsling when DS was a couple weeks old. I just got the basic black 'cuz I didn't know any better. ;-)
Well...DS is six weeks old now and he LOVES being in the hotsling...so much so that I ordered another one, in the pretty print called "blue lily". I just got it today and it is SOOO GORGEOUS! I love it!
Here's the link:

Also, I was browsing websites based on recommendations from this forum, and I really like the fabrics from lucky baby as well. I think you might like the "light bright" fabric (ooh, I just saw another post about a lucky baby co-op...and the prices are already fantastic without a discount...I wonder if DH would flip a lid if I ordered ANOTHER pouch? 3 pouches for a 6-week old baby? Is that crazy?):

HTH! I'll try to take pictures of me and DS in our new hotsling tomorrow and post them, if you're interested!

We have an oopa baby sling which I bought during the last coop - blue chambrey with a red/white silk bottom and pocket. It is fabulous - I always get complements on it. I also have a great and beautiful silk brocade black mei tai from sachi (also from the last coop a while ago) and it is defintely dressy and pretty.
Good luck,
Elise

I'm a huge fan of Zolowear slings. I have two of her silk slings and I love them.
For wraps, Ellaroo wraps are really pretty. I'm not sure if they're crunchy looking or not. I'm so crunchy I can't tell the difference any more. Anyway, the fabrics are really gorgeous:

You can PM me if you want a discount code for the Ellaroo wrap.
If you want to spend a lot of $, you could always get a didymos wrap.
