I am a 5ft tall mom with a long, heavy son! I need a hip carrier that will fit both of us. Any recommendations?

Pretty much any carrier that isn't too stretchy should work. If you are just looking for a hip carrier, I personally would go for a pouch or a ring sling because they are so poppable and easy to learn to use. A mei tai or a wrap would also allow for a secure back carry (some ring slings do, too, although I prefer a MT for back carry), which can be nice for longer carries but they have a higher learning curve. I don't personally enjoy the hip carryin the MT, though. My very diminutive friend (4'10") uses both a KKAFP, a Peanut Shell and a MT with no problems. Almost all carriers (except ones with too much stretch) can support a heavy child - most go up to at least 30-35 lbs.

If you prefer a more structure carrier, similar to the Baby Bjorn, many people like the Sutemi, which allows for front, back and hip carries.

HTH and Happy shopping!
