View Full Version : A stylish diaper bag-is there one?

I have read through the posts about diaper bags and will most definitely check out the LE little tripper. AT everybody's recommendation, I'll also check out the bubble gum bags but my quick overview didn't turn up one that really caught my eye. However, can anybody recommend a more hip bag as well (please, no offense to anybody that loves the litte tripper, honestly). I would like to find a small diaper bag for everyday, short trips that is hip. Come on, I need at least one item on my person that is hip. I want something black or in a trendy fabric that doesn't scream "mom." No checks or florals unless they are, well, cool. I like Toiles (sp?)...but I need one with lots of little comparments to keep me organized. I just posted a review on my black GAP diaper bag, for those of you that are interested. I know I'm not asking anything that countless other women haven't asked...any help is appreciated.

Happy Holidays.

Try checking out Vera Bradley bags. They have a line that is florals, toiles etc. but they also have a line of microfiber bags.

Also try checking out www.babystyle.com they often have some "funkier" bags.

Lastly, look for a nice larger size purse that you like, it probably will fit your needs as well or better than a diaper bag that may not be as "hip". Just add a recieving blanket for a changing pad, and a ziploc for dirty duds. ;-)

As you may have seen in the backpack post, I have recently decided that function will prevail over form in the shape of a LE backpack. In 15 months I've used my Herve Chapelier tote, a smaller Coach backpack and bucket bag, and a Longchamp tote. When DD was going to a sitter I sent a smaller Eddie Bauer bag from Target with her there, but it's not big enough for me for every day. None besides the Eddie Bauer one are actual diaper bags, which is okay because I add a changing pad and a ziploc baggie works fine for dirty diapers/clothes. The problem with the other bags I've used is a lack of separate pockets/compartments and ease of accessibility. I don't know how much you want to spend (it's out of my price range but it fits your criteria, I think) but this one is cute: http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product.asp?StyleID=2798467&Category=&Search=True. I know that Target recently had Herve Chapelier style tote bags that were diaper bags with a changing pad and some other things - I don't know if they came in black, though. Vera Bradley has some tote bags and backpacks that have multiple compartments that might suit your needs and won't look like a diaper bag - if you find a pattern you like (there is some black microfiber stuff). Good luck, and I'll be curious to see what others have to say on this.

There are lots of stylish diaper bags out there but it really depends on what you are looking for. :) Do you want a tote, or a backpack? Or a messenger-type bag? How big do you want it--for overnight, or for quick errands?

As you can see, there are lots of different variables to consider. In my never-ending search for great diaper bags (I currently have about 8, and just sold 3 on eBay), I have found that there are better, and cuter, options on the Internet rather than IRL. As for some of the names of stylish dipe bags, there is Coach, Kate Spade, Vera Bradley, Fleurville, Bubblegum bags, Sally Spicer, Nicole Miller, Petunia Picklebottom, I'm Still Me (I'm sure I am forgetting some, but will add more as I remember :)). Anyway, here are some links to some of my favs--some are dipe bags, others are just regular purses but could be used as a dipe bag. If anything, it will get you looking :):

Alot of these are design-your-own. You pick the fabric--and most of these have tons of toiles--and the size and they create it for you. Have fun shopping!! :)

ETA: I knew there were some names I forgot! LOL :).

Check out Petunia Picklebottom Toddler Tote. Asian inspired fabrics, great colors, light weight, small/medium design, enough pockets to keep me happy. Love it!

Chris,

I agree with Maureen - there seem to be a lot more stylish options available via internet than IRL. I wish you luck on finding a cool looking diaper bag. I have seen pictures of the Petunia Picklebottom Toddler Tote and it looks really nice! That might be one to put on your list of ones to consider.

Maureen,

I am not going to look at any of the links you posted, because I just might be tempted to try one of them out! You know me with my diaper bag obssession! I am going to try to just stick with my new Little Tripper for awhile and see how that goes!

edited because I can't always post the way I talk or think sometimes.

Check out http://www.imstillme.bizhosting.com Alot of people on this board have gotten them - they are very functional. I just came on to see if anyone has gotten their new MeTOO tote. Was thinking it would be a cute gift. Good luck jenny

At the risk of sounding dumb, what is a messenger style bag? I quickly checked out some of these links and it's looking promising. will keep you updated. Thanks to you all for providing links-so nice when people are willing to help others out with links and photos and more.

Cheers.

OMG! Thanks for this list!!! I am starting to search for a nice Spring/Summer bag. I don't think the one I have from My Three Beans will last another Spring/Summer.

BTW, wanted to post that I have a Nicole Miller b/c I thought it was cool, hip, stylish but it is soooo boxy/bulky. I don't use it that often....

Just a quick post to plug one of the links Maureen posted above. I have the Kelly bag (not a true diaper bag) from 1154 Lill and LOVE it. It is on the smaller side though. They do make a diaper bag; the style is Diana. They frequently change their fabrics so you can be certain not everyone will have *your* bag. The quality is amazing and I get comments on mine a lot.

I have not seen these IRL but the Oi Ois look like what you might want. They are black..no flowers or frills.

I have the Diana diaper bag from 1154 Lill and I love it! I went to the store to pick out the fabrics. I don't like the selections they had online...It's very lightweight and a good size for longer trips. Not to mention super cute!

I've never been to the store, but would love to pick out my own. Maybe a Diana is calling my name. :) Hope to see yours sometime!

Not sure if you found what you are looking for yet, but I love my Vera Bradley baby bag. It comes in several fabrics and there is a beautiful blue toile fabric. I myself bought both the Land's End diaper bag and Little Tripper and don't like either and spent the money to get the Vera Bradley bag. It has way more useful pockets to keep the bag organized and I feel more like a trendy mom using this bag. They sell many on Ebay for great prices. It retails for $84 in specialty stores but check Ebay first. Please give it a look.
I'm so happy I made this purchase!!!

I am so glad there is this topic. I am looking for a new bag. I would love to get the Kate Spade but unfortunately it is out of my price range (I do have one of her purses and love it!) Does anyone have a suggestion for another bag that has microfiber and has a look similiar to the Kate Spade? Thanks a ton!

I love my kate Spade bag. It's not the messenger style, just the plain ol' diaper bag. There are two sizes, and the large is actually HUGE! I think you could fit the baby in there as well as the diapers. The KS bags are stylish but don't have lots of little pockets. I think in smaller bags if there are too many pockes you run out of room for the stuff you're trying to carry around. There are 2 outside holders for bottles, but I put my car keys and cell phone and other little things in them. There's one inside pocket and I put my wallet in that. Everything else gets dumped in the bottom, but the bag's not too big so I don't (usually) loose track of my things. KS has lots of different fabric options, too.

I love my Diana bag from 1154 Lill! It was my last big splurge while pregnant. Mine is black with gold pindots, and the flap is a gold stripe. It looks very cool and does not look like a diaper bag at all. I love the messenger style because I can sling it over the handles of my stroller, also I can sling it across my body if I have to carry it and Ian at the same time. It's very roomy. I also scotchguarded it top to bottom and so far no stains.

A few of you have mentioned Herve Chapelier bags. Anyone know where I can find one reasonably priced -- I'd even buy used. That seems to be the way to go for me..

Thanks!

So much good info in this topic discussion-thanks again to all of you for your comments. Here's yet another question: I just found out I am preganant with #2 (a Christmas Eve surprise). That will put me with a newborn and a 20-month old. Do you have to carry around as much for a 20-month old? I now have no idea how big of a diaper bag I will need-

Happy Holiday.

For my now 22 month old I carry 3 diapers, a spare outfit (usually something one piece and lighter in weight so it folds small) including socks, wipes, rash cream, diaper disposal bags, disposable changing pads, snacks, a couple toys (cars or McDonald's kids meal toys), a sippy cup. I often try to fit the diaper stuff into the dirty duds bag so it is quick to grab and just bring a plastic grocery bag for dirty clothes.

So add to that your stuff, the new baby's stuff, and you are looking at a good size bag. I really like my AmeriHealth Baby Bag for all the stuff. I can really pack it or leave it fairly empty.

Editted to add CONGRATULATIONS on the surprise!!!!!

I bought mine (Herve Chapelier) at bloomingdales. They are from France. I have definitely used it as a diaper bag, it works really well and they are cute. The model on the Maclaren website Volo page is carrying the one I have.

As a side noteI love the new Diana fabric - (the red one!), that list was dangerous!

I was just perusing this site for the first time and found the suggestion to use a Herve Chapelier bag as a diaper bag. This is a great idea!! My son is now three months old and I haven't been able to find a bag I really like (I am still using the free Similac bag they gave out at the hospital!)

I am going to order one online and was wondering if anyone could advise on which style number (N925, N1024, N1027??) and size work best as a diaper bag? I would really appreciate any help and am so glad I found this site!

Thank you!
