View Full Version : Shopping cart cover question - pockets, yes or no?

I've been trying to decide on a shopping cart cover, and I'm wondering if pockets are a useful feature, and whether or not I should go with a cover that has them. I'm skeptical of pockets inside the seating area, since 16-m-o DS would just send the contents to the floor. Outside pockets might be useful, but I'm not convinced a back pocket would be out of his reach (he's always reaching around to grab the groceries).

If you have a cover with pockets, do you use them? Which do you prefer, side, front, or back pockets, or all of them? Or is it easy enough to just carry a separate bag instead?

Thanks for any input, seems like I've been waffling over shopping cart covers forever!

Have an inside pocket but don't use it. The diaper bag is always slung around me if I need to reach a toy to give to DD.

I have a SewCuteBotique cover with the pocket on the inside. I keep Conner's sippy cup there. It's nice to have, but definately not a necessity. If I didn't have it I probably wouldn't even miss it. Conner does take his sippy cup out of the pocket to drink from it and then it just ends up in the main sitting area.

I have a Buggy Bagg, and I really like having a pocket in the back. I leave diapers, wipes, and a changing pad in it. I don't take a diaper bag with me to anywhere I can use the Buggy Bagg on a shopping cart.

I find pockets on a shopping cart cover to be useless. Although the pouch on the covers4kids ones is nice to stuff the cover in when you are done!

I also have a Buggy Bagg, and I really like the pockets on the back. I use them to keep my cell phone, keys, a pen (for the shopping list) and an extra couple items for ds. They zip closed, so if you needed to you could always do that to keep curious fingers out.

That said, if I had a better diaper bag I might find the pockets to be superfluous.

I have a buggy bagg & a cover4kids one...i do like pockets and i prefer the zippered ones on my buggybagg but it's pretty personal..my kids like putting things in their pockets you know sippy cup, small toys etc.

I have a covers4kids and I use the pouch that the bag folds into for a pocket for DS's sippy. The pocket is just out of his reach and is deep enough to hide the cup and the extra special banana crackers we use for grocery store emergencies! I like it, but honestly my son is not that wiggly--he will try to turn around, but the belt keeps him in.

I have a shopping cart cover the folds into a pocket (when opened up the pocket is on the side of the cart). That's really the only time I use the pocket to be totally honest. I think you'd be better off spending $ on getting a loop attached for toys using links.

I have one from www.kiddiecartcovers.com with a pocket on the front (near the handle). I put my keys in it right now, but once DD figures out how to access it, I'll have to stop using it. So, I don't think the pocket is useful in the long run.

Thank you all so much for the great answers. I gather that some find them useful, some not, so I guess it makes sense that I'm a bit undecided.

My feature preferences at this point are toy loop(s), not overly thick padding, and a pocket in the back might be nice but not a necessity. I've been most interested in covers4kids, SewingUpTreasures (I like the pocket pack, but doesn't have toy loop) and SewCuteBoutique (no back pocket, but I've heard I can ask for thinner padding). Decisions, decisions.

Thanks again for all your help!
