Can you record two shows simultaneously with TiVo?

Or do you have to have one for each room (two VCRs)?

You can't record two different channels at one time. You can have more than one TiVo box and record on one and have it sent to another box. You can also download recorded shows onto your laptop.

Once you have the Tivo box, do you then have to pay the cable company for the service? If so, what is the typical fee? Is it really worth it? I am thinking about getting it for dh for xmas.

If you have the Direct TV/TiVo Combo Box you can record something and watch something else live, but I don't know if you can record two things with that setup. With a regular TiVo and cable box setup, you can only record one thing and you can only watch the show you are recording or something already recorded.

Yes you pay either $13 a month or a one time fee of $299 for the life of the TiVo box.

For me it is soooo worth it!

I'm not sure exactly how to do it, I know they were offering a free in home package that would allow it, I would call and see what they say.

We have the TiVo/Direct TV combo with dual tuner, which allows you to record on 2 channels at once. You can also be watching a third thing that you previously recorded but not a third live channel. Does that make sense?
