View Full Version : Is anyone afraid of Monday's Oprah?

I've heard that they will showcase a Fleurville Mothership on Monday's Oprah. I kind of like the fact that not everyone knows about this bag - it makes me feel cool for once ; ). After Oprah, EVERYONE will have it. Is anyone else thinking this way?

I understand where you're coming from. I'm much more likely to enjoy a bag because it's not a "popular" brand name. I'm happy for Fleurville though, I'm sure it will be excellent publicity for them!

I wouldn't worry too much though, until Target.com start carrying them!!

I'm surprised target.com is adding higher-end baby products now...Maclaren, Britax, Skip Hop, Kipiis. I'm sure we'll see Mountain Buggy there before long. I worry about the WAHM businesses that retail a lot of these products online. I hope it doesn't cost them a lot of business. It is good for the consumer though.

Oooh, oooh! If anyone has a Fleurville they are thinking of selling, now would probably be an excellent time to put them on Ebay. I'm sure the auction prices will be much higher after Oprah's show airs.

Just a thought...

Hmmmm... I wasn't thinking of the Ebay route. Good idea! I was thinking they'd be harder to find so I ordered another one this week just in case (the Red Canvas). I should sell one of them before DH asks for 'Dvorce.' ; )

OH! And to reply to the Target.com response- I did just notice that Target.com just went surprisingly upscale. I'm wondering if they are the *same* MacLarens or Britax Seats as other stores or if they are doing what they did with Caphalon and Kitchenaid by carrying a "Target" version of these product?

In my People magazine, it shows her at Ft. Campbell in KY doing some "training" exercises. It said she stopped by the base to do a baby shower for the 640 pregnant military moms-to-be. Glad you guys mentioned this, I'll have to watch now!

I would just like to know where they got all the pregnant women for the show. I would have gladly volunteered to be an audience member!!

I am just worried that I'll see tons of baby stuff I *have* to have after seeing the show!! LOL

But I see what you mean.......I think Fleurville will get a big boost in sales after this show. ;) They won't be so 'unknown' after this.

I heard that the majority of the pregnant moms are military moms whose husbands have been deployed to Iraq. I bet it was a blast for all of them to be on the show and get all free goodies!

Okay, so, I missed it...can anyone recap what happened? Or, the stuff mentioned?!

Thanks!

Exersaucer, onsies, books, Boppy, Snugli, Johnson & Johnson bath products, $1000 to fly out someone for delivery, Diaper Genie and the fastest mention of Fleurville I ever heard. It was like she ran out of time so there was no talk or reaction about it. I don't know if everyone even got one???

I agree with Caroline - they definitely speeded things up on the bag and I was hoping to see them showcase them a little more, especially since I'm still trying to decide if it's as big as I think it is. Oh and I think every single mom got one. . . good for them!

They really got some great stuff and these were well-deserving women! Poor Fleurville didn't get much cheering. I'd be cheering the loudest if I got a $150 bag! It seemed like they cheered more for the baby wash. I guess the show was highly sponsored by Johnson and Johnson.

I thought the show was a huge disappointment. I had taped it and everything thinking she would be giving out Bugaboo or Peg Perego strollers with matching infant seats, Britax convertibles, My Brest Friend Nursing Pillows, Dr. Brown's bottles, etc, etc........ But no, she gave away Graco strollers (30lb Quattro), Boppy pillows, and Snugglis (not even a Bjorn). I've never even heard of a person liking their Snuggli. Oh well, I guess none of us here on this board were consulted prior to the show! We could all come up with the World's Ultimate Baby Shower!!!!

Yah! What was up with the 5 second mention of the Mothership? They spent like 15 mintues talking about Johnson and Johnson Bath Products but flew by the Mothership. Could have something to do with J&J sponsorship...

Fleurville probably didn't get much cheering, b/c it is not typically a, "mainstream" baby bag brand. Around here, if ppl asked me what kind of strollers I have and I told them a maclaren, combi, yada, yada, they would give me really weird looks and say, "I have NEVER heard of those brands before." Graco, cosco, evenflo and kolcraft stollers and those cheesy looking pooh diaper bags are the, "norm" around here. I am actually a big oddball around here, b/c I have a lot of baby stuff from brands that ppl have never heard of, b/c I did not get it at walmart or kmart. You should see the looks and comments I get when I take joshua out in a sling.

Now, I would have been whooping it up too, if I found out *I* was getting a fluerville! Who cares about $3 babywash!

Well, I'm sure that Oprah didn't personally pay for all the stuff. Whatever companies wanted to get some free advertising by giving away free merchandise probably were the ones that got selected. I guess GRACO was willing to give away free travel systems to *640* women. If it wasn't for this board, I'd probably think a Graco was an awesome stroller. I just wouldn't know any better because Graco is EVERYWHERE. LOL

Of all the stuff that was given away, the only thing I was excited about was the Fleurville bags. Everything else didn't really excite me. Then again, I guess if I got all that stuff for FREE I'd be cheering as well. ;)

It was an OK show. Maybe if she does it again next year, they'll have better items to showcase.

It's the same where I live too for the most part. The norm is a Graco stroller and a cheesy Pooh diaper bag. In fact, I got a Pooh diaper bag from my MIL at my shower a couple of weeks ago and am wondering how I can get rid of it without her knowing! LOL Even before discovering this board, a Pooh diaper bag was just not my style!!!

LOL about the cheesy Pooh diaper bag comments! Why don't you just keep it in the car with a back-up of diapering supplies. That way you don't have to use it in public, but your MIL will think you use it all the time since it is always in the car ;)

I didn't watch the show but from what I was told by my aunt, the women were excited about their free gifts. I know that I would be excited even though it's a graco stroller and snugli, and we must remember that there are many people who can't even afford those things. I have never owned a graco stroller but I know many people who do and love it. From what I was told, I think that they received substantial baby items.

I expected more high end product too....BUT, even though she gave away Gracos, etc...I still think it was awesome!
True, we all like the fancy strollers, bags, etc...but everything is relative.
For a lot of people to have a Quattro is a big deal. And, as far as the Fleurville bags are concerned...I wouldn't know to cheer for one either if it wasn't for this board :-)
Among the sea of Gracos & cheapie diaper bags in my area...I am one of the ONLY moms with a Peg, Mac, & Zooper, Skip Hop, T2 etc.
The military moms all seemed so appreciative & I am so happy for them...they are all so deserving!
Sometimes I think my life would be easier if all I knew about was Graco strollers & Similac diaper bags....I could channel all the energy I use obsessing over my next purchase into something more constructive :-)
I hope no one takes this the wrong way...but as someone who grew up in a single parent household without a lot of $$, we should all remember that not everyone can afford the high end items.
I feel bad when someone writes a post asking for recommendations for an affordable stroller or bag & the responses are all for expensive products.
Sorry to rant....
I love Oprah & I thought the show was AWESOME!

I just want to say that although I wouldn't "buy" many of those items, I would have loved to be an Oprah audience member that day. I think it's wonderful what Oprah did. I taped it and watched it late last night, even my mom called me and told me that she thinks DS "needs" baby UGGS. How funny is that? Also, I'm kinda' glad the Fleurville didn't get too much mention b/c now it's still gets to be our little secret :)

Maybe I'll just keep it stocked in the trunk as a 'backup' emergency bag of sorts. She will never know the difference. ;) Nothing against Pooh really, I like it for CHILDREN. I just want to carry around a diaper bag w/ a bunch of cartoon characters all over it. The baby isn't carrying the bag, *I* am. LOL

Yeah, I agree with the other person, use the pooh bag for your supply bag in your car (extra dipes, wipes, burp cloths, outifts, etc.). That way you are technically, "using it."

hellokitty

Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool that they got free baby stuff. It's just funny that ppl got more excited about the, "mainstream" baby products, b/c they really didn't know any better, kwim? I made a mistake of getting an evenflo TS while I was still ttc, what a mistake. That thing is a piece of junk. If it were not for this forum, "educating" me, I would end up like your typical new mom, just wanting to make sure ALL your baby stuff matches the same graco pattern! None of my stuff matches, lol..

I really enjoyed watching this Oprah. Even though Oprah probably didn't pay for all of the goodies, this was a thoughtful gesture to these brave women. I cannot imagine what it would be like to go through a pregnancy with my DH in Iraq or with the knowledge that I would have to go back to Iraq after the birth. Although some of the products may not be up to our ridiculously high standards, I'm sure these women were touched + overwhelmed by this experience. I really enjoyed wathcing the snapshots, learning about some of the families and seeing the women's reactions. Additionally, they looked terrific. I don't know if they had their hair, makeup + wardrobe done prior to the event but they looked so put together!
