Piggybacking from a PP, I'd like to get DH a TB2 for the holidays. He's been carrying an LLBean tote (!) (very unlike him) but has commented that he definitely needs a nice bag. He'll need to fit a laptop, a few accessories, phone, and paperwork. Usually drives to work, but has to take a train to NY about twice a month. And he's going to start travelling soon (ie plane).

I'd love your suggestions as to which TB2 to get.

Also, any ideas about colors? Do I go with the boring black? He is a corporate type in a casual work environment. Sometimes wears jeans, usually khakis, always a collar shirt, but needs suits for meetings.

Thanks so much!

All that would fit easily in a small Timbuk2, unless he carries a LOT of paperwork or a large laptop. I'd stick with something tame - all black, all navy or perhaps a red stripe (kind of like a power tie for his bag)?

You might also want to consider one of the T2 laptop bags, like the commute. Alternatively, you could get him a T2 Messenger (I agree with Lori, the Small would probably be the right size) and add on the laptop sleeve and definitely a Strap pad. Colors? Well, you're probably a better judge of that than anyone, being able to see his wardrobe. I can tell you that my DH would FREAK if I got him anything other than black or navy or, in a real stretch, charcoal!

Have you looked at the Lands End attaches? I have the Original in black Canvas and LOVE it!

ETA: OK, the LE Original Attache is now called the Square Rigger Classic http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod/0,,1_2_1943_47563_54044_38724_5:view=-1,00.html?CM_MERCH=PAGE_47563&sid=8030169701140114080

My DH had the Timbuk2 Commute and then the Commute XL in his possession for a few days (he changed his mind on both and got a Medium Graphic Instead). If he wants to ensure protection of his laptop, I would suggest either of these two or a Medium Messenger with a laptop protector bag.

If your DH is just taking the computer and paperwork, he would probably find that the Commute is fine. My DH wanted to be able to take biking gear as well as his work stuff...

The Commute XL comes in only black (for now), but will be updated to carry more colors soon...

I was going to ask for recommendations for a laptop bag for DH. He has a Tumi that he has had for about 5 years. It is too big for his needs now. Would the Timbuk2 be too casual or as nice as a Tumi? TIA!

THanks for the link. I checked it out--it looks nice, but I think I like the originality of the TB2 better. BTW, there is a Square Rigger Classic Laptop that specifically holds a laptop.

Hi,

If price is an issue, www.rei-outlet.com and www.sierratradingpost.com still has some of the Timbuk2 on sale at good prices. (This was posted a while ago in this forum). The rei one is the medium messenger in navy/silver/navy and also a computer bag in light blue/silver/light blue. The sierratradingpost has both the small and medium messenger in various colors with a graphic center (I think these are great since they are conservative yet have a little splash :-).

using www.ebates.com will get you some money back, and also if you lookup www.fatwallet.com, you can get a free shipping riddle for www.sierratradingpost.com.
