View Full Version : Help me find a bag or a rucksack

I am a total novice here though my dd is almost 1-yr old: until now I have simply used the bag I was given at the breast-feeding class as it worked just fine for us. But by now it has gotten all torn up and I need something new.

I live in Chicago and that means cold and snow for the winter. My dd is about to start walking, so I think we will be using the stroller less and will be doing more of walking and babywearing. Both of those are easier with a rucksack than with a shoulder bag. I think I will still need to have decent amount of space--room for bottle for her and one for me, room for my wallet and a small cosmetic bag, room for diapers and changing pad, compartment for wipes (ime the little box of wipes leaks so I have to keep it separate), a change of clothes, a small toy or two. And I guess room for her food (I have b'fd almost excusively until recently so I don't really know how that works).

I would appreciate your suggestions for either a bag that can be used as a backpack as well, or a straight out backpack.

I just recently ordered the mustard sprout backpack but I have not received it yet, so can't really report on it yet.
What kind of style do you like? sporty? flowers? stripes? Patterns? Solids?
I have also had a Kelty kids backpack which was very nice and still use it a lot too. I know that all their backpacks are supposed to zipper into their carriers too, that might be a nice option if you like their carriers. I simply used it as a backpack.

I like a contemporary, city, look, either in solids or stripes. I like the mustard sprout backpack you ordered, but would prefer 2 straps (it seems to have one in the center). Kelty is too sporty. I like the Loom Bandicoot, but it seems a bit small for what I usually pack.

What about a Dakine Helix backpack? They are really comfortable to wear and can hold a good amount but are more femine in size. They also have bottle/cup holders on each side. Its not a diaper bag but definitely works great as one. I have one and love it. If you do a search you should be about to find some pictures.
Here is a link to them on ebags.

p.s.

Which color do you have? I love the garnet leilani, but would have to go with black (or khaki) so that I don't clash with my carriers.

I love their little wallets too. A neat line. Thanks again!

I have the grey and it is really nice and neutral but I don't think they make this color any more. It is really comfortable. Someone else on here has the tan one and it has pink accents or at least it used to. Good luck deciding. I like the new leilani one too!!
