I don't think so, especially if you want to go from messenger to backpack- that's what I love about it! People who wear it exclusively backpack style don't like that it is one continuous strap that slides around, but that's exactly what I like about it- effortless versatility!!! I don't find the strap too thin, either- I think it is just right!
It is a great bag IMO. :)
