View Full Version : What is your favorite waist/fanny/lumbar pack?

I'm looking to buy a waist/fanny/lumbar pack to use while I travel, go to the park, at Disney on the rides, etc... I have the Overland Donnor and LE LT, but there are so many times when I wish I didn't have a strap across my body and want to be hands free, and also don't want to wear a backpack b/c I need to get to the items quickly/frequently.

My most immediate concern is how it will work with airplane travel --I plan to use it when I fly to NY from Florida in a month, and will be wearing a BIG backpack with all my stuff, but want a few things to be easily accessible so I don't have to keep taking off my backpack to get to them.

When I wear the pack around my waist, I'd mostly wear it in
front of my body rather than as a "lumbar" bag, even if that was what it was intended for. Especially if I'm already wearing a backpack.

I'm looking for it to have:

1. at least one side pocket water bottle holder that will hold a sippy -- must have

2. a removable shoulder strap that will fit messenger style across my chest -- must have

2. waist straps that tuck away while the messenger/shoulder strap is in use -- would prefer, but not a "must have"

3. enough room to hold one diaper, travel wipes, diaper cream, my wallet, my sunglasses, DD's sunglasses, sunscreen, and car keys -- and maybe a baggie with a small snack. I don't want it too big big though, b/c I'll also be wearing a large backpack with it when I travel.

4. a front pocket and main pocket, and preferably an internal zippered pocket (not a deal breaker). I really don't want it to have so many things hanging off of it that make the bag feel bulky --some of the waist packs seem to have so many straps, pulls, loops, etc... and they drive me crazy.

Does this exist? I thought I'd found one, but then I read a review that says the bottle pocket doesn't fit even a small water bottle, so it certainly won't fit DD's sippy.

Any suggestions?

I found this, but no reviews and not sure if it's too bulky:

I also found this, but have no idea if it will fit a sippy or if it will be big enough -- also, not sure how comfy it would be to wear around the waist since the strap is not padded and not substantial:

Edited to add this bag by Victorinox (has anyone seen or used this IRL?).
