I'm very interested in donating my cord blood, but my hospital is not listed as a participating hospital on the NMDP site (in fact, none in my state are listed). Is there another agency that accepts cord blood donations? Has anyone here donated cord blood, and if so, how did you go about it?

The hospital I used was not listed either, but I discovered that they participated in the program when I attended my childbirth education class. You might call the dept. at the hospital responsibile for education and they may be able to tell you with whom they are affiliated.

I donated through Cryobanks International. I contacted them, and they sent me a kit to take to the hospital. Do check with your OB or midwife, though, to make sure she or he is willing to collect the blood. Mine was fine with it but would only work with certain banks for some obscure legal reason (not having to do with safety but something like patent infringement).
