Hello Forum,

My baby boy just turned 7 months and he is formula fed and jar fed too.
I feed him Earth's Best Baby Food jar food...right now, he is averaging 4 jars per day and in-between meals, he receives his baby formula.

Right now, I feed him:
7 a.m. : Peach oatmeal and banana
9 a.m. : Peach oatmeal and banana
in-between he receives bottled baby formula
1:30 - 2 p.m. : Apples & Apricots
in-between bottled baby formula
4:30 - 5 p.m. : Sweet potatoes.
rest of evening about 2-3 more bottles before bedtime.

My son is very tall for his age because my husband and I are over 6 feet in height. Also, my son is average in weight according to the doctor.

At my son's last doctor's visit, the pamphlet I was given didn't mention about how much or what amounts of jar food he should be fed.

What is the appropriate amount of jar food a 7-month old baby should be fed and what types do you recomend I could give him at his age right now?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

If you don't get a lot of replies here I would try posting this on the Feeding Baby board as it gets more traffic:

First thought is that he may be getting too many solids compared to formula. For the 1st 12 months formula or breastmilk are king and the rest is just for practice (especially for a ff baby as unlike a bf baby they are getting formula supplemented with iron- they don't need that boost at 9ish months). Formula is much higher in calories and fat than fruits and veggies.

At 7 months most babies on these boards are probably doing 1-2 solid sessions/ day but some are in the 3-4 servings/ day (prob. depends on whether baby started solids at just 6 months or earlier than that). By 12 months most are doing 3 meals of solids per day and maybe a snack (but that is most likely still a bottle or bf'ing session).

This is a good feeding schedule that breaks down what food baby should be eating when and how many ounces of formula to aim for.

Here's another link that might help- it is a breakdown on feeding a 7-9 month old:

It looks like baby at 7 month should be getting 24-37oz of formula a day. So long as baby is in that range then I would follow his lead on the solids.

It sounds like he is growing fine. So long as he has been on his own curve that is what matters. :)

HTH a little.
