View Full Version : Have Any Tips for Satisfying the Need to Suck?

My son is 4 1/2 months old. Overall, he's a pretty good sleeper. He only wakes up one time during the night. I think that the reason he is waking up is his need to suck. I say that because when I tried to eliminate his night feeding, I gave him a pacifier which helped him go back to sleep. The problem is the pacifier would fall off, would wake him and he can't go back to sleep again until I put the pacifier back in his mouth. So, I got rid of the pacifier altogether and decided to go back to feeding him. At least with the feeding, I only have to get up one time. But I really want to eliminate this night feeding since he obviously doesn't need it. Does anyone have ideas/tips for satifying the need to suck? Ferber mentioned this in his book but he didn't offer any solutions. I have no problems with using a pacifier; just as long as I don't have to keep waking up to put it back in his mouth.

Thanks,
Liza
