View Full Version : PT/OT ? Jumperoo

DS loves the Jumperoo, too much.

He isn't rolling yet consistently (he has only rolled once back to front and once front to back) so I have been giving him more tummy time and he started backward commando crawling today. But, he looks at the thing and starts "bouncing" while he is on his tummy and will complain terribly until we put him in it.

How much bouncing time should I limit him to?

I wouldn't worry, Aaron didn't start rolling over reliably until 8 months. Now, he's a pro at it. He does love his Jumperoo still as well, but he's over 25 lbs now, so we don't put him into it much anymore. Don't worry, the jumperoo is fun. I used to jump on the mattresses when I was little, this is tons better :)

I think the general rule of thumb is to limit it to 20 minutes total per day. I say the general rule of thumb, I'll also say that DS was in the Jumperoo way more than that. He loved it. I know that developmentally it wasn't the best choice, but he had so much fun jumping and it gave us a break...FWIW he was a little on the late side of normal doing things (sitting up, rolling over, crawling) but he's running like gang busters now. He probably rolled over fairly consistently about 6 1/2 months, sat at 7 1/2 months, but didn't crawl until 10 1/2 months, walked at about 14 months...

It wasn't often, but I know at least one occasion he was jumping for almost an hour (hangs head in shame). We have quite a few videos of him just jumping away. I did try to limit it, but I'd say it was probably more like an hour total/day. Usually not at all once, but it did probably total about an hour.

But I think most physical therapists will tell you that 20 minutes at the most and to be careful because the 20 minutes can add up very quickly.
