My nanny pronounces my 16 month old DD's name wrong (her name is Calla, pronounced beginning with a sound like you make when you say "cat"). My nanny pronounces it like "Kay-lah."

I ignored it for a while but now am starting to wonder whether my DD is getting confused by this different pronunciation, and maybe that is why she doesn't really respond that well to her name?

I did think, well, if people who use british nannies probably experience their child having her name pronounced with a british accent, so maybe i don't have to correct my nanny? but then i think 16 months is when she should be greatly influenced...

thanks.

Go ahead and correct your nanny. Just be very friendly and say, "I noticed you pronounce her name Kaylah, but it's actually pronounced Calla. I just don't want her to be confused, now that she should be responding to her name." I don't think the nanny will be offended or anything.
