View Full Version : Can anyone explain this behavior in my 14 month old?

I have hesitated posting this because it seems so ridiculous, but it has been going on for several weeks and although it's hilarious, it is very puzzling to me. Anytime DH and I get close she freaks out. Whenever we hug, or hold hands, or stand too close she gets upset and cries. She's not acting scared, just upset and generally unhappy. It was hilarious at first because it was like she was 15 and we were making out in front of her - she was so disgusted it was so funny! Anyway, it has continued and without fail if she sees us get too close she gets upset. Is this the most odd thing you have ever heard about?! Any ideas?

My guess is she's feeling jealous.

I'm not sure about that since when we try to include her ("family hug!") she still gets upset. That's what has me so puzzled, she just doesn't like us to touch! :) Kids are so odd...

Um, yeah. Dd used to get very excited and happy whenever Dh got home from work. NOW, she will go to the door and greet him, but instead of letting him pick her up, she'll immediately run back into my arms, and start fussing. At first I thought it was because she knows now she has to play with Daddy instead of me. But she loves to play with Daddy! I figured it out when Dh came to kiss me hello while I was holding her. She just kept pushing him away and complaining! Yeah, I think it might be jealousy. Hilarious to me too. Fortunately, if I just go away, she'll settle down and then have the greatest time with Dh. tch tch! Kids!

Perfectly normal 14 month old behavior! There are probably special terms that a psychologist would use, but they grow through this, just keep hugging and kissing away (within reason of course :) )
