I just ordered Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood: Practical Parenting from Birth to Six Years, by Fay. I haven't received it yet, but several of my psychologist friends have said it's wonderful. There's no spanking among that crowd! Also, Sears has a book called The Discipline Book, and that won't advocate spanking. It's a little astonishing that people still spank, but it certainly happens. Ugh.

I've read a lot of discipline books and I have NEVER read one that advocated spanking. Here are some of my favs:

How to Raise a Happy, Unspoiled Child
Positive Discipline
The Sears Discipline Book

ITA - I've never seen any book that advocated spanking. Our ped recommended 1-2-3 Magic, which I thought had some pretty good ideas.

I got this from the library last week and began reading it last night. So far, boundaries, consistency, and following through are the main themes.
