I thought about home schooling DD and found the following on the web. Since DD just turned two, we haven't tried it ourselves. HTH.

California Virtual Academies
http://www.caliva.org/index.html

Q: What does it cost to attend the California Virtual Academies?
A: As a public charter school program, there is no tuition. The California Virtual Academies loan students a computer system and provides all instructional materials for the program. However, students and families will be responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper).
http://www.caliva.org/faqs/index.html

A new student must be a resident of one of the following counties:
Alameda Alpine Butte
Calaveras Colusa Contra Costa
Fresno Imperial Inyo
Kern Kings Lake
Los Angeles Madera Marin
Mariposa Mendocino Merced
Mono Monterey Napa
Orange Placer Riverside
Sacramento San Bernardino San Diego
San Francisco San Luis Obispo San Mateo
Santa Barbara Santa Clara Santa Cruz
Solano Sonoma Stanislaus
Sutter Tulare Tuolumne
Ventura Yolo Yuba

Scholastic does warehouse sales a couple times a year -- there are great bargains there, or so I'm told.

We're most likely following a Charlotte Mason / Thomas Jefferson methodology, so I've been stocking up on classics from Dover (they have cheap versions) and Bookcloseouts.com .

There are a few curriculum swapping sites if you are interested, too!
