Hi all,
My oldest is 7 and all of her friends are having their first communions. Anyone have an economical gift idea for the ocassion? I would appreciate any help or ideas.

Thanks!

We started a charm bracelet for my niece. We bought it via Silver Works in Rehobath, DE. I think the bracelet and charm (cross) were around $25-30. They ship I know.

Yup, going to a communion this sunday and have no idea what to give or what's appropriate. It's for a boy, so will take any of those ideas as well. So far I came up with a TRU gift cards. Creative, I know. But I am very sick and not motivated at all.

I bought these books for my kids recently and they are wonderful:

http://www.amazon.com/Catholic-Prayer-Book-Children-Julianne/dp/1592760465/ref=sr_1_15/102-2043622-2721750?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178213146&sr=8-15

The paperback version is only $3.95, and is a very nice size for taking to church.

I personally like something religious related for such an event, maybe I am just a bit old school. Our traditional 'boy' gift is a pewter cross. I am always on a hunt for cool crosses at art fairs etc.

If you want to give him some choice, then I saw gift card to Barnes and Noble or Borders.

For Christenings I have young child books I give, and or a child friendly nativity set (hard to find, even the F-P one.)

Thanks... I am staying away from religious gifts because I am Jewish. This is DH's family. They know it would not be a genuine gift from me if it was something christian. We are raising DS Jewish and have had to drive that point home to DH's family numerous times.

I always strive for genuine gifts, but I am so sick and DH never shops for anyone. Maybe I enable him, but he knows how sick I am and has not offered to go get a gift. And I honestly can't think of anything non-denominational that would still have some sort of meaning for this occasion.

A rosary holder can be very inexpensive, very inexpensive.
For boys you can always do a more traditional jewelery chest.

Picture frames that are for communion are nice.

Not really sure what else off the top of my head, since you want to stay away from religious items.

I hope you feel better... gift card or cash!
