I picked up the Step2 Naturally Playful Up & Away Sand Table for only $34.98 in-store at Toys R' Us. It is this one--

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2316881&cp=&sr=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2254197&origkw=up+and+away&kw=up+and+away&parentPage=search

http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1377&stp2ssid=12584F08-1143-E489-2D1E4CEEAF172569

It retails for anywhere between $90 to $100 usually, plus really high shipping costs online b/c it is a big box. Toysrus.com sells it for $79.99. I had called my local TRU with the item number from the TRU website to see if they had it in stock, and the store told me that it was discontinued and reduced to $34.98. They don't even have a paper ticket or display picture for the item at TRU, which is why most won't even know that it is that cheap or even in stock (big items like sand tables, play structures, etc. have paper tickets that you bring up to Customer Service at TRU when you buy them). But just a warning--it may be out of stock and hard to find b/c it is discontinued by TRU in-store. Also, some TRU stores may have varying reduced prices. The manager at another TRU told me that their last price was $49.99, another one said $67.98, and another store did have it for $34.98. I guess they have discretionary reduced prices. But for those of you interested who can find it, $34.98 is a great deal. We set it up today, and my girls love it. It's big with lots of sand play. And I thought the $59 Step 2 Sand/Water Table was a great deal, but this is a real bargain as well!

Thanks so much for the post! I ran right out and got one. I just got home with the last one available anywhere within a 50 mile radius of my house. I also bought the sand/water table at kmart last week but we just have water in it because I didn't want to deal with the mess. The sand only table was too good to pass up and came along just at the right time.

Thanks OP!!!!

It's really a great product! We set it up today and put 100 lbs. of sand (two 50 lb. bags) in it. I think 100 lbs. of sand is perfect, even though it says it can hold 200 lbs. The table provides lots of room for sand play, and the crane is so cute! The umbrella cover acts as a good cover, though I only use two of the three elastic ties to secure it down--I'm afraid it will rip or pull too much if I use all three. Can't attest to the longevity or durability yet, since we just started using it, but so far it seems like a great sand table! It's a bargain, considering the size and the umbrella. My girls played with it for two hours today and love it. Believe it or not, they didn't have sand all over them after playing with it.

Just picked one up in Stockton, CA. They seem to be the only ones in the No. Cal area that still have them in stock at 34.98. Can you use these as a water table? Thanks for the heads up on this deal!

That's a great idea. I think it could totally be used as a water only table. It would be like a big round trough. I bought two, so my second one could be used as a water only table. Thanks for the idea! One for sand, one for water.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this post. I've been reading it for the past few days thinking no chance I'd get one because I always forgot to call TRU and check during the day. Well I called this morning first thing and found out MY Toys R Us had a few marked down to $19.98.

Whoo-hoo!!! {Insert Cartwheels}

I bought 3 of them, one for the house and the others for my nephews. I'm so excited! What a deal!

Thanks again Karen!

Wow! Kudos to you! $19.98 is an unbelievable bargain! Oh how I covet your unbelievably low price! Hmmmm. Now I'm trying to figure out if I can somehow get a price adjustment at a TRU where it last rang up as $19.98--but I don't think any near me had it at that price. $19.98 is an AMAZING price!!!! I'm so glad you found it!

I'm jealous! I went to my TRU and I asked about it and they had one in stock and said I could have it for $55 :( I told them about your $34 deal and they said they couldn't discount that much.
I didn't get it.

Thank you, thank you Grace! I didn't think my local TRU could have it any lower than $34.98 since I bought the last two there. I figured it couldn't possibly have gone down in price since none are left there. But sure enough when I called, the store rep told me the price was $16.98 now! That's crazy! So I promptly went in and got a price adjustment. I thought I heard her wrong when she said "$16.98." I was ecstatic. It's just 5 minutes away, so I hurried right on over. Some TRU salespeople have told me that they don't do price adjustments on clearance items, so I was SO happy that they did the adjustment tonight. I don't know what the exact price adjustment policy is for TRU, but I'm pretty sure it's 7 days (not sure about clearance versus non clearance). Luck of the draw, perhaps. So all of you who found it for $34.98, I highly recommend that you call the place that you bought it from to see if it went down even further within the last few days. Especially since I had just bought my two for $34.98 on Thursday and now it rings up as $16.98! Crazy bargain! Thanks Grace!!!! I owe YOU big time!

I just bought one for $34.95 15mins ago here in California. They still have 3 more in stock so I will call back tomorrow or later to see if the price changed.

BTW, where did you get your play sand? Does TRU carry it? If so, is it the same as the Home Depot one? Thanks.

I bought my play sand from TRU for $5.99 per 50 lb. bag. I wanted to check Home Depot's prices on sand, but never got around to it. Home Depot is probably cheaper, but I don't know what kinds of sand they sell. Home Depot probably sells a variety of sand. I think that 100 lbs. of play sand is a good amount for this specific table, but I did buy an extra bag anyways. I'm not sure if play sand is a seasonal item, so I wanted to have an extra bag on hand since I know not all the sand will stay where it should!

$16.98! I am excited for you!

[Isn't this sad that these (kiddie bargains) are the things that excite us these days...LOL]

I am almost tempted to see if my TRU has more, so I can keep them in the garage for SUPER DUPER gifts! The box is rather big though...I don't think they would be too fun to store. Congrats Karen. So far you are the big winner!

Good luck to everyone else. Happy hunting! :-)

WOW!! I was just excited finding one at my local store last night. They had it for $57.98 but I called the Burlington, NJ store right before I went in to see how much they had it for and she told me $34.98 so the manager said he had to give it to me since the other store told me it was $34.98!! I soooo would have loved her to say $16.98!!! If anyone lives near the Oxford Valley, PA store they had 1 left as of last night! It is in their storage shed outside and if you do what I did, you should be able to get it for $34.98, maybe even cheaper!!! Good luck and thanks for this great deal!!

Although its fairly light, the box is actually pretty big. 40"x45", about 7.5"deep. I had to fit it diagonally into the back of my SUV. It was just over the headrests in 2nd row.

MY TRU had one more.$19.98.

I bought my two (last two, I think) at the San Mateo, CA TRU. I think it was also ringing up as $16.98 at the Newark, CA location. It sounds like a lot of the N. California locations might have had it for $34.98, if not cheaper even.

Has anyone set it up yet? I noticed that there aren't any pre-drilled holes for the screws to go into the black tube center support. It seemed well supported and sturdy enough to me without the screws in the center support, so I didn't use them. Just wondering if you used the screws or not. So far, so good with this toy. My sand has stayed clean and well covered. Thx!

Karen,

At first, I wasnt going to use the screws because I could not find any predrilled holes either. But, I figured the wight of the sande would need it. So after several tries (and choice words), I finally got the screws in! I would have waited for DH to do it, but my son just couldnt wait - he was so excited. I am sure as long as you have the center bar there, it should be fine.

Thanks again for the heads up on this deal! My DS LOVES it! I know my nephew will also! :-)

OK, I called around and only one store had any left. They have 2 for $19 but the stock guy said that they looked really beaten up. I put them on hold. If they look really bad should I ask for a discount on top of the clearance price? I never know how to do that. One was going to be a present. I hope its not too bad

I agree with Grace. The boxes look pretty banged up, some even ripped. But when I checked and opened them up, everything inside was intact and fine. Both of my boxes were beat up and ripped, but you could tell that they hadn't been used or returned because the instructions and the crane were sealed in plastic. You have to actually rip the plastic open in order to get the instructions and crane out, so they clearly hadn't been opened before. So I recommend just buying them, making sure all the pieces are there and that the instructions and crane are indeed sealed (if you are anal retentive like me). The stockpeople even told me that the boxes in the back tend to take a beating, so it's not really a big deal if it's for you to keep. Maybe you could even open up the box and check it out before you buy. It's too good a deal to pass up.

No price matching at Fowler. He said all TRUs will have different prices, according to their surrounding competition. (WalMart, etc.)They had 4 left at $44.95. Still a great deal, but I just can't stomach paying that to keep an extra one for a gift. Especially after the deal I got.

:-) Happy continued bargain hunting to all...

Just a thought--could you buy them at Fowler for $44.95 and then get a price adjustment at the Brandon store where it was $19.98? Since TRU is a major chain, maybe they do price adjustments from any store location, so long as it is within 7 days. I would call and ask generally if any TRU location can give a price adjustment for an item bought from another TRU. Not sure if they will do it or not (or they may even say that they won't price adjust clearance items), but it's worth a shot.

I would just play dumb and take in your receipt with the box in your car and say that your friend just bought one and it was much cheaper. If they give you any problems then ask if you can return it and re-buy it. Its worth the shot. Thats a big price difference. I wouldnt care if it was $19 vs. the $16 price, but for $45 you could buy two!!!

My husband doesn't though. I spend more money because of this board - and now he has another project on his plate. I got the last one at my store. The box is way beat - but for 16.98 I could care less! Even the sales guy was astounded!

Whoo hoo Nancy! $16.98 is super!

Yes, my husband is so over me and this board...He says that I spend enough money shopping already, I didn't need this board to fuel my fire!:-) I just have to RUN to the mailbox first and to the door when deliveries ring! (Anyone ELSE do this?) LOL!

I LOVE this board!

BTW to those still searching - I am in Florida - Tampa area. But if you are hunting around here - no luck. They are all gone and the Fowler store wont sell them less than $44.95. I guess thats still better than reg price, but it kinda burns to spend that when people are hitting jackpot at $16.98! ( I didnt even get it that low :P )

Good luck!

Oh, and did I mention - I LOVE this board?

Sadly my husband is home during the day. I get, "So what did you buy the girl NOW?".

Today we are having outdoor "sand table" play day since the weather is nice. Wondering what is the verdict from the mommies that have set it up. Do the kids love it? Do the mommies like it? Do you have any suggestions for play with it besides the usual sand (and possible use as a water only table)? What have your kids found to be fun--specific toys, accessories, putting other things in it besides sand, etc? I welcome ideas and different usage ideas wholeheartedly!
