I'm looking for a good, warm coat for my three year old. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Hanna Journey End jacket, but realized they too are made in China:-( Any ideas about companies that sell good quality warm coats for little girls that aren't really really expensive? TIA!

Is there any particular reason why you would prefer a coat not made in China?

I'm guessing it's because of all the recalls and quality concerns coming out of China Factories lateley.

I always get Columbia coats for DC. Not sure where they are made, but they're warm and you can get a coat and snow pants set for ~$100 if you watch for sales. I'm looking at this one for DD: http://www.columbia.com/Product.aspx?top=3&p=5432&cat=32010&viewAll=False

Clothing is not made with lead paint so there is no need for a boycott of chinese manufactured clothing. I would worry instead if the clothing companies violate child labor laws or use substandard work conditions.

Clothing is made in Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Vietnam, Singapore, China, Korea, and other places. It is good practice to investigate where all our products and merchandise comes from.

I think the issue is Chinese made clothes containing formaldehyde and not lead paint. According to one article at just 20 parts per million, the chemical can induce rashes, headaches, dizziness, joint pain, fatigue, asthma and in the extreme case - cancer. Something else to worry about, oh joy.

There are some sites that specifically link to Made in USA type retailers, such as:
http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/

Campmor was one site they mentioned checking, and I found this Infant/Toddler Polartec Fleece jacket ("made in USA") listed there:

I have also seen clothing items recalled for lead...here is an example: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07102.html
