Can't believe I can't remember, but how big are babies' heads typically when they're newborn? I'm making hats.

Hi, Rachel!

I am looking in my What to Expect the First Year and here are the measurements she gives:

Average is 13.8 inches.
Normal range is from 12.9-14.7 inches.

Are you knitting or crocheting the hats? I really need to take up knitting or crocheting. The hospital where Andrew was born gave him a hand knit baby blue cap when he was born. A senior women's group makes the hats for the newborns at the hospital and donates them. It is so precious! It made me feel really special for him to have a handmade gift the minute he was born. Of course, it was a little big on him and kept falling over his eyes!LOL!

Take care and HTH!

Thanks! I'm knitting. I love it! My midwife hand-knit a hat for Abigail and gave it to us at the birth, and I treasure it. It's still in her drawer.

That's smart to get the circumferene. My sister knits and just trusts the stated size. Last year I got a hat and this year DH did because her first try turned out way too big. At least she loves the photos of us and DS matching.

I'd make it a little smaller since the yarn will stretch...that way it will stay on better and not be too big. JMO. :-)
