i posted this in the toddler forum, but since i know there are so many talented people who come to this board, thought i would dare to double post.... hope its ok....

my friend is getting a new house, and wants to decorate her son's bedroom with a basketball theme (he is a little older than a baby/toddler,,,, but i bet alot of ideas can last a while)

we were brainstorming, and didn't come up with all that many great ideas. though of making a headboard for the bed that looks like a backboard, having the clothes hamper with a hoop over it, and painting one wall either orange or brown to look like a basketball. we were hoping to find some kind of border of just basketball stuff to continue the theme around the other walls maybe....

in other words, we are in desperate need of someone with creativity and designing style !! any input would be greatly appreciated !!

thanks

Here's one baseball border

We have this dog mural style border in DS's room, and it's incredibly cute.

The Company Store ( www.companykids.com ) has some bedding and accessories in a baseball theme, too.

D'UH!!! I can still blame it on sleep deprivation, right? :) Besides - it's all that sports stuff . . . .

And I'm pretty sure that 4walls.com has some basketball stuff too. And I think they can even make up designs as a custom order. I think I'd checked this, and they could even do a PWD border (they already carry a cocker one) - but DH picked the one we have. And I let him, since we also have cocker and PWD water colors in Neel's room.

EDITED TO ADD

Just did another quick search, and didn't see a specific basketball border, but there are some sports themed borders that include basketball. Would be worth contacting them, I think!

Here's a link to a tiny little picture of a basketball themed room (it's the one in the middle): http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_bathroom/article/0,1793,HGTV_3365_1394941,00.html

I believe I've seen a basketball ceiling fan. I know they make a baseball, but at the risk of getting beaten by Rashmi's stick, I won't suggest it! :P

If there is a particular team that's his favorite, use some pennants and jerseys--if he's got an autographed one, you could hang it framed.

In a kid's decorating book, we saw the closet doors painted to look like locker doors with stickers of the names below the "fins" of the locker door. In front of the locker door, they put an athletic looking bench. My SIL did this to her kid's room. Will put up a pic later tomorrow.

Sears has a great kids room catelog that has basketball items in it. Here are some ideas I can think of off the top of my head, and a few things friends have done in a baseball theme room that you could adapt:
Scoreboard painted on the wall with sections of chaulk board paint
Put team pendants or jerseys around the room
Locker to hang clothing in
Locker style baskets from Land of Nod lined up under the bed or on a shelf
Basketball drawer and/or drape pulls, or pegs on the wall
Line of folding chairs as a shelf (like on the edge of the court)
Lines on the floor, or carpet with lines (I have seen basketball theme rugs)
Large chaulk board

Some of the best ideas may come from her son. Maybe they could go to a few games together to look for ideas. I know my brother would have loved that growing up.

They have lots of basketball accessories on this site, which you could order or make yourself.
Things like basketball knobs (you could easily paint some plain knobs), basketball shelves, rugs, pillow, shelves, clocks, etc.

You could also frame jerseys on the wall.
