So I think I found the perfect cheap diaper bag for when #2 is born (Feb mind you...can we say obsessive?) Its one from evenflo. I like it because it has straps to attach to the stroller, a big changing pad that has pockets for diapers and wipes, so you can just grab that part for changes, just the right configuration of outside pockets for me and its $20!

Here's the problem: the inside is one big black hole. So I was wondering if there is anywhere you can buy a light colored vinyl type insert with pockets to create some kind of internal organization. I'm even considering making it myself. I'd love to rip off the bag with the best organization..what bag is that anyway? I'm also thinking of buying a small cooler to fit inside too. Any help much appreciated especially from you whimsical wears folks who had to make this kind of decision!
Thanks!!!

Maybe someone can be a bit more specific to help, but I remember seeing an organizer that you could put in the bottom of the bag. It was basically 1 piece of reinforced material that had pockets on both sides and you put in in the bottom of the bag standing up. I am attaching a little doodle to help you know what the heck I am talking about. (the bottom rectange is supposed to represent a bag open) The cool thing about this organizer is that you can take it out to see what you have and then put it back in with everything in place. If you sew or know someone who does then you could probably modify this to what you want and make it or have it made.

I really hope this helps if you have made it this far with me.

I love your doodle!! That seems like a great idea, and simpler than the insert I was thinking of. To be perfectly honest, I'd rather buy than try to make it on my own but th eprice would have to be right. Where did you see this? Is it available online?
Thanks so much!!!

Is this it? This would be too expensive for me to buy, but I think even I could make this, esp since the pocket seem too small.

We bought a cheap messenger bag from Target to use as our diaper bag. When that started to fall apart, we just bought one from ebags.com.

What I like about it is lots of pockets inside and out, two bottle pockets on the outside, and the interior is a bright orange so that you can see everything!

DH likes it because it's not "too baby" or "too girly." We can easily wear it, or shorten the strap to throw it over the back of the stroller. It also comes in 8 different colors, so I let DH pick out which one he wanted. (we went with the red).

So far no complaints...

That's exactly what I was talking about, but I saw it on a site that they were alredy made. It was not as expensive as the pp found. Thanks for posting that site b/c now I am going to print it and try it out.
I hope I helped out!!!

you sure did! Thanks! I think that even I can do this. In fact, it has confirmed my suspicion that I NEED a sewing machine for my birthday. One question though...once you have the elastic thru the sleeve, how do you gather the material along the other edge so it stitches down evenly across the entire piece? Is there a way to gather it with thread? Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm kind of new at this!!!
Thanks again!

I wish I could answer that, but my Mom is the only one that sews in our family right now. I WANT a machine so bad, but alas life keeps getting in the way. Maybe someone else will be able to tell you.

Ella makes something for organizing the inside of a bag:
