How hard is it? What do I need? I want one side chenille and the other cotton. Is there a pattern somewhere?

I need a baby gift for a friend and was thinking about a pretty stroller blanket (I was actually thinking of buying one) but then thought...how hard can this be? I made shorts and a pillow in Home Ec & I have my grandma's old sewing machine. Unfortuanetley, the machine is very old and only does a straight stitch.

Can somebody help. (I might just wind up buying one, however).

Do you mean just a plain blanket to use in the stroller, or more like a CozyToes/BundleMe kind of thing? Here's two patterns I found at www.SewingPatterns.com , the first of which is on my wish list!

Kwik-Sew: http://www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=2470ks

McCalls: http://www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=2824mc

(Joann Fabrics will have McCalls and Butterick patterns on sale this Fri Sat Sun for 99cents each, just FYI)

Oh, and if you do decide to buy one, check out the Bundle Me and Bundle Me Lite. I had a regular one for my DS's infant carseat and it was great. They also come in a larger toddler size, and many color options. I'm sure there's other products out there as well (I'd be glad to make you one once I get my pattern this weekend), but the BM is the only one I've used personally.

Hope this helps! Would love to see your finished product!

**********ETA: I just took a closer look at the link to the McCalls pattern I listed, and it's not a blanket at all, it'sm ore of a stroller seat pad. Sorry!

I don't know how hard it would be to make (sew two squares right sides facing and leave an opening, turn, slip stitch closed), but check the WW co-op. I think stroller blankets are one of the items. It might be cheaper to buy one through there than make one (ooh, I wonder if they can be monogrammed?)...

thanks for the links, I'll take a look. What I am looking for is just a small flat blanket to be used in a stroller. It has got to be easy, I would think. But, I will need instructions. I have a hard time winging it on first attmepts--second, third and fourth attempts I am confident winging it :)

hee hee. Just my thinking. I was initially thinking about getting a monogrammed one via the WW co-op but then thought, 'how hard can that be to make...All I need to do, as you say, is "sew two squares right sides facing and leave an opening, turn, slip stitch closed."' But, heck, who am I kidding. I have no time for sewing! The WW price is just slightly over my budget...but maybe i should just bite the bullet.

Wow... i am just in awe that you are _thinking_ about sewing it yourself... bowing down to greatness... i wish i could sew.. i almost bought a Viking Husqa-something sewing machine when i was pregnant.. i told dh that i could make cute clothes for the baby... WHO WAS I KIDDING!! haha! Actually he almost bought it too because the old-lady showed him all these fancy stitches and he was like 'i no longer have to pay $12 to get my pants alterened at the tailors" and we held hands and looked lovingly into each others eyes and at our rosy future. Cut to Miss Leela entering our lives..haha... we laugh hard at our almost-bought sewing machine dream now! Such dreamers we were!

I just snorted water. You crack me up!

Your DH is free to purchase a Viking-Husqua-something and have it shipped to beautiful GA if so inclined...;) I was drooling on them at JoAnn's yesterday.

This is SO me! Everytime DH & drive by the sewing machine shop a ask him to stop so that I can look at sewing machines. Then I wake-up and laugh and say, "Yeah right, 1)where will we put the darn thing, and 2) I don't have the time to sit & sew! KEEP DRIVING!"

I don't know what the WW co-op price is for a mono'd blanket, but I have an embroidery machine, and would make you a blanket if you're interested. Did I offer that before? I don't remember, if I did, sorry to be redundant! :)

Juliet, it really is not that hard. I did that before and just used 2 fabrics cut into 1 yard squares. I sewed them together, right sides facing each other on 3 sides. I sewed the 4th side about 3/4 of the way and turned them inside out. I slip stitched them together. One fabric was chenille and the other is a flannel blues clues.

I am a sewing newbie and took 2 sewing classes. I want to take another class in Oct. Right now, I am in the middle of sewing slip covers for the dining room chairs (using easy patterns, of course).

I would like to try to sew a diaper bag but am too chicken. I think that I will do that as a project at my next sewing class.

Just saw this thread. I have made a ton of these blankets. Anna, you are welcome to come drool on my Designer 1 anytime. Maybe we can whip up some of the blankets and sell them on your site. I have 2 machines that embroider and I've been thinking about doing some embroidery to sell for awhile.
