I know I probably won't get an answer, but here is my question anyway. I was trying to figure out what kind of dress to buy Audrey for her first birthday party. I thought about making her dress and tatting some edging for the neck/sleeves/hem of the dress. Any chance that anyone here has done anything like this?

I think I'm the only person that loves to tat, even though my skills are basic.

Hey, our babies share the same birthday. I don't know how to tat, I think it looks cool though. I'm more of a knitter. I think it is a great idea. I think once you do the tatting, adding it to the edges of the dress should be the easy part. I'd probably attach it by hand. Good luck, it should be great.

This is something that I've wanted to learn to do. Can you recommend a resource for teaching myself?
I DO know how to sew, however, and would second the recommendation to hand sew the tatting onto the dress. In the old days, hand made lace was hand sewn on dresses, and then removed each time the dress was washed, and resewn again.

We have an heirloom dress in our family that my husband's grandmother made and tatted. Tatting is such a lost art. It's gorgeous and all of the baby girls in the family have worn it and taken photos in it. I just want to say that your idea to tat some lace for your DD's dress is a sweet idea!

Wow, that is so beautiful. It has that simple elegance that I just love. Makes me want to learn to tat. I love the "all the girls in my family" stuff.

This book helped me learn how to double shuttle tat so maybe it would be helpful for you.

A friend borrowed the book so I cannot look to tell you how good the instructions for beginners are. I found mine like this at Hobby Lobby.
