I've only made halloween costumes for my DD and DS - things that you wear 2-3 times and with the hope they don't fall apart!
So this poncho is my first project that I hope my DD will actually wear throughout the fall and winter.
It took only 3 hours from start to finish - it would have been less had I not sewn the hood on incorrectly.

Here's the completed poncho:

DD - I made a size 3 poncho with a size 4 hood.

I found this fabric at Joann's. $10 for all the fabric I needed.

So for those who don't crochet or knit - there's a poncho pattern out there for us!
