View Full Version : LOOK! I made this!

I just have to brag! I haven't sewn in about 20 years (since 8th grade Home Ec--good golly, it's been that long?).

Anyway, I had ordered a blanket from a recent co-op and wasn't very satisfied with the product so with the help of some wonderful women at the quilting store, I re-made this blanket. I added batting and the red fabric to the back, as well as the binding effect on the edges. The embroidery was already there from the initial product I ordered. I initally bought the blanket for a shower gift but am now giving this to my baby niece, Lauren, for Christmas. Thankfully, the monomgram still works :)

Anyway, the most frustrating part was the mitred corners. I don't know if they are textbook, but I hobbled something together and I am so so so pround :) DH is so proud too!

That's really pretty, Juliet. I would have no idea how to mitre a corner! Impressive. So maybe if you chuck grad school you have some options? ;) (Totally joking--do not chuck grad school!)

Thanks! I am hoping to take a sewing class this winter so I can really get the hang of it :)

Um, that's exactly what I'm thinking! I could become the doyen of baby blankets. Oh, and had my internet been working on Sunday I would have been emailing you to help with those @*^&$ corners :)

I bought some flannel sock monkey fabric this summer and want to make Finn some pants. I think that is what I might try next :)

Really nice job, Juliet. Yours looks wonderful!

My co-op blankets finally got here, and like you, I'm not impressed. There was nothing to them. I wish there was some batting or something to thicken them. Oh well.

Lisa, bummer :( However, if you sew, it is very easy to add some batting to it. As I mentioned, my sewing skills are very rusty but the women at the local quilt/fabric shop were so helpful and held my hand through many of the steps. You could see if somebody at your local fabric store is willing to help.
