Hello,

I am looking for any helpful info on making your own sling. Does anyone out there have a paticular pattern or type they prefer and thought was fairly easy to sew. I have only a little experience with sewing so I don't want anything too difficult.

Also, any suggestions on rings to use and where I could buy them? I think I need a larger ring since the fabric I'm using is going to be thick for warmth.

My daughter and I are traveling to Germany and I want to keep her bundled next to me in a warm fabric. I think a 2 1/2 or probably a 3" ring is what I need.

Any suggestions or websites to find the info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't made a ring sling, but I made an Asian baby carrier from the instructions at http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/index.html?Baby/ and had good luck. You might have a better response asking the question on the baby carrier forum -- a bunch of people there make their own. The sewing isn't tricky in any of the slings/baby carriers.

www.Slingrings.com for the rings. They have 3 different sizes and many colors. You can do a web search for sling making directions.I looked at the one I had (a Maya) and decided to do the fold differently since I didn't like how that one spread on the shoulder. It's pretty easy .Unfortunately my last baby never really like the sling like my others did.:-(

I have made a couple of kinds of slings. I used Rev. Jan's pattern for a non-adjustible fleece pouch that I liked and was SO easy to sew, and I used Elizabeth Lee's ring sling pattern http://www.elizabethlee.com/patterns/nc202.htm to make a ring sling. It was fairly easy sewing as well and came out quite beautiful.
