I know some people make there own carriers. I don't know how to sew but I would really like to try this. What type of fabric is best? Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shannon

I have never seen a Moby, but the descriptions say it is cotton interlock. Here is a good starting point for babywearing with many pitures and links to DIY:

The Moby is 5 meters long (~5 yards, 18 inches) and 23" wide. I was a co-mod on the yahoo slingsewing group for a while and we were pretty obsessed with getting these details down. ;) My understanding is that it is made of cotton jersey, which is a bit thinner than interlock. I believe the edges are serged, but you could also hem them with a regular sewing machine.

It's actually very easy to do, but not that cost effective if you are paying full retail for the fabric (interlock being $6/yd, for 5 yds... or jersey being $4/yd). You could buy 2 2/3rds yd of jersey, cut in half lengthwise and sew the two pieces together so it's about 5 meters long. This gives you a center seam, which is helpful for finding the middle and putting the wrap on. But then it's not exactly like the Moby, which may or may not be important to you.
