Okay, I tried the costume I bought for Dora and really it's too big and too HOT. Poor thing looks like she's sweltering in it. Luckily I can return it. So now I still have the pants and shirt as a base, and I just need to make something for the wings. I'm thinking of making a tutu based on directions on an earlier thread, the puffy kind. Is that impractical for a kid that may still be crawling? I was going to make it a little shorter so it doesn't trip her up. But the main thing is the wings. Has anyone made wings for a ladybug, or bee, or anything like that? I'm thinking of something lightweight that can be pinned to the back of her shirt. Aack! I only have 3-4 weeks left before this Halloween playdate! I can't believe I'm stressing over this! Okay, not really :-)

Melinda,

I saw this at Oriental Trading. I think you could make a small light weight version pretty easy with foam. They are not as airy as probably what you are looking for, but if all else fails, they would work.

ETA: Here is another idea from Family Fun Mag where you could use your new sewing machine.

I was a ladybug for years growing up! My Mom made a costume with red and black felt. It was one I just had to put over my head, then tie under my arms. I used it for years! Just put over black clothing and find some beany-boppers. Mine was flat. It could be made by sewing or just using glue.
