It seems to me like I have read several posts here where folks mention giving eggs to their babies but only the yolk or the whites (I can't remember). Do you know which it is and why? I would like to cook up some egg for Sara, but was wondering what the deal was with the yolk versus the egg.

TIA

up until a year, only the yolk, after a year the whole egg is fine! i bet she'd be fine now since she's ALMOST a year!

I think the whites are a potential allergen so they say to wait till 1 year. We actually tried Caleb with a whole scrambled egg just today and he liked it better than just the yolk - I put cheeses in it though. I figure he's close enough to a year now (yikes!)

We got the go-ahead to start whole eggs at 9 months. Colin loves them scrambled (now he eats two scrambled eggs with cheese and some baby oatmeal sprinkled on them for breakfast almost every morning)!!

baby oatmeal uncooked straight from the box? i've been thinking about doing scrambled eggs and cheese, so maybe i'll try that this week.

what kind of oil do you use to do eggs in? it's been so long since i made eggs.

Um, I didn't know that you were supposed to cook baby oatmeal?? We've always served it uncooked, mixed into EBM, fruit, yogurt, whatever. We just sprinkle some straight from the box onto the eggs at the same time that we add cheese - Colin doesn't seem to mind, and it adds some more iron to his diet.

oops, yeah, i meant...ADD WATER? LOL!!! so you don't add water then?! yep, that's what i meant :)

do you do that solely for the extra iron?

We use unsalted butter. If you're not giving Lauren dairy, I would think that any sort of vegetable oil would work. Probably even olive oil, although I've never tried that.

Tammy:

If you have a nonstick pan you can use Pam spray to cook the eggs.

No, no added water. Yes, for the extra iron - Colin isn't much of a meat eater, so he gets most of his iron from Cheerios and Kix, and his sprinkle of oatmeal.
