Kellymom says it is ok to offer whole grain breads to your child after 6 months.

I thought that I wasn't supposed to do bread until 9 months because wheat is allerginic.

Can someone clear this up for me?

TIA!

While everybody seems to agree that wheat is allergenic, I believe that there is no clear recommendation for the age when wheat should be introduced. I think Ellyn Satter's nutrition book recommends waiting until the child is 7mos.

I think that if allergies run in your family, you may want to wait a little longer to introduce wheat.

I think Kellymom was quoting LLL suggestions, but she counters that with other stuff. It's true that whole grains are more nutritious than baby cereals, but if you read the whole thing, it suggests waiting until 9-12 months for wheat.

My ped said to go for it at 6 months. Especially to put a roll in the freezer for 10 min. maximum and give to baby to teeth.

Too bad C hates it!

I did read the whole thing about waiting 9-12 months. Thats why I was so confused. It seems there are a lot of differing opinions.

I read somewhere that some breads we think are whole grain actually are not. Do you know about this?
