Good grief! I'm pretty tuned into this stuff since I've been nursing my DS for nearly a year, and I have ONLY ONCE noticed another mother nursing in public. This tell me that most of us are pretty darn discrete.

So what's the message we're getting? Breast is best, but you better not leave the privacy of your own home if you want to breastfeed? Grr....

Isn't it awful? Though technically, it's not unlawful, just not lawful. What a society...

Shannon's right. It's not illegal, just Ohio is one of those states that haven't bothered to enact legislation expressly for the protection of nursing mothers. Women are still protected on any federal property in Ohio (libraries, monuments, etc). But it's crazy that the right to feed one's hungry child ever has to be in question.

Well, I haven't been asked to leave anywhere or cover up anything yet while living here in OH. Maybe I need to try harder?! Just kidding, but it would be nice if we didn't even have to question whether or not there was a law protecting the right to feed your kid.

I received an email back from the author of the article...

She strongly suggest we Ohio mom's write to our Ohio state Senators and Representatives asking for support on this issue. I'll also try to contact Rep Clancy.

I stink at writing these kinds of letters-- anyone have a form letter I can personalize? I'm better at it with help :)

Great article. Too bad that the topic is so ridiculous. If men could breast feed, every store, restaurant and convenience store would provide recliners for their comfort!

This was my favorite part of the article, lol:

"Any woman who's nursed can tell you that having a hungry critter attached to your breast has nothing to do with sex, at least not when he's the size of summer squash and needs you to wipe his bottom eight times a day. And anyone, man or woman, who feels uncomfortable watching a mother breast-feed ought to stop watching. That's a whole lot of none of your business anyway. If you find it titillating, then you've got problems I can't solve in 16.6 inches of copy."

I'm out of town this weekend, but I'll take a stab at a template early next week. HTH.
