I have the Ameda Purely Yours and am currently pumping into the bottles that came with the pump and pouring the milk into the Lansinoh freezer bags. Any tips for pumping directly into bags?

Thanks!

I tried it but it never really worked for me. Instructions came with your pump or you can find them on http://www.ameda.com

It was awkward getting them off the pump after they were full, and I was always afraid they were going to slip.

I used the Pumpmate system to pump into drop in liners, froze in them and fed directly from them.

I pumped at work for over a year directly into bags with my Medela Pump in Style. You don't have to pour into the bags. That would be such a pain! The secret is to buy bags that have attached wires. Lansinoh used to make this kind, but now I've only been able to find them made by Bailey Medical. There are WONDERFUL. You just twist the wires around the "horn" of the pump where you would normally attach a bottle. They stay secure, and you can just fill them up. When you're done, the same wires are used to seal the bag. These bags fit right onto Playtex bottles by the way. Medela makes its own brand of bags to pump into, but they have seperate wires that you have to thread through holes in the bags - no thanks! In theory, you could attach any bag to the pump using a wire twist tie, but the bag could easily slip off or be punctured by the tie. Someone needs to invent a clip that will hold ordinary bags on securely. The bags are a little pricey because they are really thick for freezing, but probably no more pricey than Lansinoh. I've only been able to find them online. The best price I found was 100 for $30 at www.pregnancystore.com.

Great! Thanks for the info! I ordered 50 bags from the site you suggested to try them out.

Have you found that the Bailey twistie bags work with the Purely Yours pump?

Yes, they work great! Although, you have to be careful to make sure you twist the metal ties on securely. I spilled a bag the other day.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I was worried that the milk was piling up in the fridge because I've been doing all the feedings, but DS seems to have started another growth spurt.... If supply follows demand, how am I supposed to stockpile anything over the next month before I return to work?

You need to add an extra pumping session at the same time every day. I pumped in the morning before the baby woke up, and then fed her right afterwards.

I used to say that I was tricking my breasts into thinking that a set of twins came over every morning. :)

Doing that allowed me to build up a stash so I never had to worry day to day about whether I had enough for the next day. It also allowed me to stop pumping a month earlier and still give her breastmilk at daycare.
