Okay, so I accidentally got some lower sugar oatmeal from the store. I don't eat anything with Nutrasweet because it just tastes bad to me, but I've never tried Splenda. I am breastfeeding and am wondering if Splenda is okay to eat.

TIA,

Splenda is actually made from sugar, so it's A-OK.

I don't like Nutrasweet etc. either, but Splenda doesn't bother me. It's the only artificial sweetener I think tastes like sugar.

Splenda is made from sugar. It has been altered in some way so that your body does not absorb it the way it does sugar. So it is sweet like sugar, but the calories do not "count".

So, is it safe for Toddlers to eat??

i eat it, and i am breastfeeding, but for some reason, i wouldn't want my toddler to eat it. i just try to limit sugar, and when he has a sweet treat, i give him the real stuff. probably because i have heard so many bad things about aspartame, and had a bad reaction to myself, and i am just a teeny bit afraid that splenda could turn out to have a bad side too.

most of the information i have seen says that its safe. i did do a web search though, and stumbled across a group that said it was bad for about a million reasons, but it seemed like one of those extremist groups that think everything is bad.

Splenda is a derivative of natural sugar, and is one of the only sugar substitutes approved for diabetics. It is also safe to use if you are pregnant and BF.

Here is an article that talks about Splenda:

It's all I use any more, and I used to be an avid pink-stuff fanatic!

Thanks for the link. It was quite helpful. I don't eat a whole lot of sweets or junk food in general, but it's nice to know that if a food happens to contain Splenda, it's fine for me to eat it.

I personally don't use any artificial sweetener, including Splenda. It is made from sugar, but it is chemically altered, so I don't trust it any more than the other stuff.
