View Full Version : 13.5 months and Mom's Milk Bar is officially closed!
My goal was 1 year and we made it. It has now been a week since Lorelei nursed. One night she said milk and kind of pulled at my shirt in a half-hearted way but other than that, she doesn't seem to miss it. After we read a book, she claps her hands to tell me she's ready for her songs before bed.
And now after having gotten used to my nursing boobs, I'm shockingly flat-chested again. Luckily I haven't developed any serious plugs in the last week. At one point I was pretty sure I wasn't really making much, if any, more milk but still had one section of breast feel lumpy and kind of sore. I pumped until the lump was gone and that did the trick without stimulating milk production.
I appreciate all the advice I've gotten from everyone here. I only know a couple of women IRL who have BFed this long. My DD quit nursing for comfort a long time ago so all this was for her health. It would have been way easier on me to have given formula. So I feel as if I have really accomplished something.

Congratulations Wen! Good for both of you! You deserve many pats on the back for nursing a year, like you said, not too many reach that these days.

Congratulations Wen! 13.5 months is wonderful! What a great gift to your baby! Wonderful!
We are almost there too.. and I have mixed feelings about it... down to one (maybe 2) nursings a day. Just finding it really hard to stop completely.

What a great job! It's wonderful that you could give your Lorelei that gift. Now go out and get yourself some beautiful lingerie as a reward and pack away all those clunky nursing bras!

That's GREAT news Wen! Way to go mama!
I am also approaching that mark (13 months and counting) and have decided to let him self-wean. Honestly, I wasn't even sure I could even BF at all: my sister couldn't (inverted nipples) and I kept hearing horror stories about how hard it was. Now I don't know if I want to stop!
And I hear you about the "shocklingly flat-chested" part! I was looking at my profile in the mirror and I swear I could hold a pencil under them ladies! :o I used to kid to DH about nursing til Kael's 8 yo just to keep 'em nice and plump! LOL!
