I am splurging on some of the Elle Macpherson nursing bras, but I am totally confused as to which of the many and contradictory ways I am supposed to measure myself for the size. I am anywhere from a 32DD to a 36A and everywhere in between based on three different ways of doing it.

I already missed out on free shipping because of this, and I want those bras! I don't trust the dept stores around me to do it correctly either and these bras are nowhere near me, so I have to mailorder. Plus, this isn't brain surgery (which I could maybe do anyway :)) and I shouldn't require a professional to subtract two numbers, I just need to know how they do it.

My ribcage/under the boob measurement is 31.
My boob measurement is 36.
What am I???

I'm leaning towards trusting hte breakoutbras website (round up to nearest even number for size, so 32), but I can't figure out if I should be doing 36-31=5->DD or 36-32=4->D

The site that sells the bras is the genius that tells me I'm a 36A, so I'm not trusting them.

I started out with some nursing bras from Mimi Maternity & just bought 2 of the Elle bras - love them by the way. I bought the same size as the Mimi bras & they fit great. Is there a store near you that you could try a nursing bra on & just use it as a guide?

Nordstrom has bra fitters certified by Wacoal. They are excellent.

Well, my current bras don't really fit correctly after being worn so much so can't compare them. Closest Nordstrom's is over an hour away -- no chance of getting there until after the holidays. Any help? May crosspost in the lounge.

Look in your yellow pages for "corsetry" stores. These are the places that have the ruthless little old ladies with measuring tapes. They are scary and mean, but they know their stuff!

You have to follow the instructions for whichever brand you are buying. They are all different. I forget where I bought my Bravados, but the site had instructions for how to measure for each brand.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one with a toddler who is buying new nursing bras! I need to replace my Bravados and based on the way Logan still giggles when she sees my naked breasts I don't think we are going to be weaning anytime in the near future! In fact, I might end up wearing out the new Bravados too!

LOL -- Marisa, those two sites give totally different instructions for how to do it. I'm either a 36A (or 36DD depending on how you interpret it) or a 32D. Sigh. May just go for the National Geographic look. I'll check the yellow pages, though.

I have no advice - I just wanted to commiserate. I recently posted about the same problem in the Maternity Clothing forum. I am anywhere from a 38A to a 32G depending on which website's directions I follow. The closest Nordstroms is 1.5 hours away and I have no hope of making it there any time soon. I wanted to order a bra from Breakoutbras.com - they are the ones who came up with 32G which I just can't believe. I thought about just ordering the same bra in a slew of sizes to try on (and then returning the bras that didn't work) - but I am not sure if their return policy sounds very good. Sigh. I wore the same couple of ratty Bravados the whole 15 months I nursed Andy. I bought Bravados again this time, but I was hoping to get one "nicer" (ie, not pulled on over the head) bra this time around as well.
