Help me get her back to the breast! Im soo not ready to wean just yet, and I truely dont think Lil'bit is either, but we have had two crappy nursing days. (like most weekends) Today we were out at parties so I figured it would happen but just as I finally get her to eat (my breasts were killing me!) someone walked in the room and there went that session. Now its bed time and she takes two sips and thats it because she is so full of junk from the parties ARG!

Now half the time when we go into the bedroom (pretty much our only nursing spot) she cries when I put her on the bed. I think she might be teething, and possibly have an ear infection as each time that has happened she has not wanted to nurse...but that being the case...how long is my supply going to last? I can barely get an ounce when I pump. Help....is this the begininning of the end? If so Im sooo sad! :(

Kathryn, how is it going now, any better?

I saw your post and assumed that someone more knowledgeable than me would answer. I came back today to check, and I'm sorry that I didn't reply the first time since no one answered. :(

Honestly, I think of you as an experienced breastfeeding mom who knows a lot, so I am sure you can get through this.

If she does have an ear infection it might hurt her to suck, so that could explain it. Your supply should rebound when she gets back to nursing, but in the meantime keep trying to pump at regular times even if nothing is coming out. That lets the breasts know that you still need the milk to be there.

Kathryn, don't worry about pumping amounts -- they have little relation to how much you have. You can still pump just for the stimulation but ignore the actual amts. If you have the chance, have onw or two relaxing days to just hang out around the house and do some nursing. Offer and don't take offense if she doesn't want it right then -- she will later. Get her ear checked out. Go easy on the party food (for her -- you eat all you want!) One nice thing amout nursing at this age is your breasts can handle things better, so even if your supply dips, once she starts up again it should go back up.
