View Full Version : Nice BF story from the peds waiting room

I had to take Benjamin to the ped today and while we were waiting he started to get hungry. Now normally I just feed him when he's hungry, especially if we're somewhere obviously child-friendly like the peds. But today must have been sports check-up for every high school aged male in the 3 towns surrounding the office. I really didn't want to feed him with all the guys sitting around so was hoping they would call us soon. They called a few of the guys in (seeing different docs) and then there were just 2 left. One was on the other side of the waiting room engrossed in playing a video game and the other was sitting in the next row of chairs and facing me. Benjamin started to get a little more fussy - not crying yet but definately fussy. The guy sitting across from me said to me, "Go ahead and feed him, he sounds like he's getting hungry. My mom has 8 month old twins at home and that's what they used to sound like. I don't mind if you do, but I'll move so that you will feel more comfortable than if I stay right here."

I was amazed that this kid (he looked about 15-16) was aware and considerate enough to say that and then move. I commented about it to my ped and she said that he was a great kid and the oldest of 7 so was used to being around nursing babies.

Wow. I'm impressed. That mom is obviously doing a great job raising thoughtful, polite kids. Good for her and good for him; as a pp said..he'll make a great dad one day.

That's a GREAT story! How nice to know he'll grow up into a man who is comfortable with women nursing. We need more of those. ;)

That's so sweet it's making me cry. :) Must be the preggo hormones...

I was nursing Kaya in one of the classrooms (after I quit, so I went back to visit) during a break so there wasn't really anyone in it except for the teacher and me and Kaya and one other girl. Then a 17 year old student walked in (I know him fairly well) and I looked up and said, "Umm...I hope you don't mind..." He immediately replied, "Oh don't worry about it--I'm used to it--I have a ton of nieces and nephews who nursed." And he walked off to another part of the room. I just think it's nice to see that sort of thing. :)

That is awesome. Thanks for sharing the story with us. Considering all the anti-BF stories, it's nice to hear a positive one for once!

Ahhh thats so great! My best friend came from a family of 6 kids and all the boys are going to be such great dads one day. They are all totally comfortable with Breast Feeding and have been around babies that they are super gentle and hands on... even with my kids!

That kid must make his mom proud! I know I would be! I hope that my boys will be the same way!

I love it! He clearly is NOT being raised by the same women with teenage sons in this piece. SIGH.

Lori,
I did not BF ever, but your story made me cry. Really! I'm not pregnant nor getting AF it was just so so so sweet. I hope that my boys are that great when they are teanagers. Too bad there's no way for you to call his mom and tell her what a great job she's doing.
