View Full Version : how much dairy for a 1yo?

We are planning on switching E from formula to milk this weekend, which brings up the question of how much dairy should he have each day. Right now he has about 18-24oz formula, a yobaby (4oz), and sometimes most of a string cheese (and an assortment of fruits, veggies, and O's). Once we start with milk, I'm assuming he'll drink about the same amount. Is this too much dairy for a baby? I want to make sure he has enough, but not at the expense of other foods he maybe should be eating.

TIA!

that sounds about right... I think 20 oz or so of milk everyday. My 14 month old drinks between 20 and 24 oz of milk a day and also eats yogurt and cheese (string cheese or cheddar)!

Thanks! I am crossing my fingers that the transition from formula to milk goes well (which means we'll probably have horrible poop problems!)

Just go really slow with it! We started out with 4 oz of formula to 2 oz of milk for a few days then slowly increased the ammt over the course of a few weeks.... eventually we were out of powdered formula and went straight to milk and he was fine.... no poop problems and he liked the milk just fine! Good Luck

A few weeks? Oh heck...I've got enough formula for a few days left! Oops! I guess I shouldn't have assumed we could transition so quickly.

We could easily have transitioned within a few days, it went so smoothly. Good luck :)

Sounds about right. DS took about a week to transition from formula to milk. I did 1/4 milk, 3/4 formula, then 1/2 and 1/2 and then 3/4 and 1/4. I changed the ratio every other day.
