Probably not a benefit for us since DS was formula fed at the hospital (due to rapid weight loss) and switched to nursing when my milk came in finally. Still nursing though.

Well, DS1 should be set for life, then. He took 3 weeks to get back to birthweight! :-)

Bummer. My (BF) babies gained like crazy the first few weeks.

But then that was their genetic tendency. They weren't falsely gaining weight because you were feeding them a foreign substance.

Wow, I wish I had had this article to hit the docs over the head with when my DD was born 6 months ago. She was small 5lbs 5oz and lost more than 10% so of course the FREAKED. I wasn't worried but they hounded me night and day. Made us stay in the hospital longer and would feed her bottles when they took her for a weigh even though I'd said not to. Thankfully she had prehaps 3 days with a bit of bottle before I got out of the hospital and learned to say, "yes" when the doctor asked if I was still supplementing (because they threatend to readmit us when she hadn't gained back her birth weight at 1 week.)

Now at 6 months she is still a tiny girl (12lbs and 23 inches) but growing and thriving and hitting all her developmental milestones and she is still EBF.
