I received a few dozen Medela 80 oz. plastic breastmilk storage containers from a friend. Does anyone know if it is safe to sterilize and re-use containers that have already been used by someone else?

I just had my baby three weeks early, and due to some feeding issues I am pumping exclusively until he is ready to nurse. I will need to start freezing milk in the next few days. I know that it is not safe to share a breastpump, but I have not found anything on whether it is OK to share storage bottles.

Thanks!

Yes, I would just run them through the dishwasher and they should be fine. The pump isn't safe to share because it cannot be cleaned properly (in theory).

For freezer storage, I suggest using bags instead of bottles. They take up less space (lay them flat to freeze, then move into a box) and they are cheap to buy more when you run out.
