View Full Version : Missing Avatars - I have a theory

If you add an attachment to a post and then go to delete it, there are sometimes 'extra' attachments that you are able to delete. When I was testing this theory, I had an attachment come up that was a picture of two carseats. I wasn't the one who originally uploaded that picture, but yet, I had the option of deleting it. So, I think people go to delete an attachment and just select all attachments to delete and thereby take our cutie-pie avatars with them. :(

So, when deleting attachments, please check the numbers in the filenames (when you upload a file, it gets a number assigned to it; I believe we're in the 17000's somewhere now). If there's a file that seems out of line number-wise (the numbers are assigned sequentially in order of being uploaded), please don't delete it.

Alan & Denise -
If this is the case, it seems like it would be a bug with the software. Let me know if you need additional information; I'm happy to help resolve this.

Thanks!

Ditto what Mary said.
Maybe if the admin for the server can just go back and delete all attachments from a year ago.. it would free up some space?

Great idea Rashmi! I know that I've gone to upload a pic and it said the server was full and that I had to delete some files... and the files it showed were not my pictures. Also, regarding avatars, there are a lot of people that have large avatars uploaded (like a 5"x7") but then it has to be resized to the 48 pixels by our computers. I know that takes up a lot of space (and download time for us dial-up folks). If the uploaded AVATAR image isn't 48x48 pixels, maybe it could be unallowed. (Of course larger, non-avatar pics are still great!)

Mary-
How about this problem? I am getting an error message when I try to upload my pic. It's 50K exactly, but the error message is "Error with Avatar". Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I thought I was following directions, but apparently not.

Any help would be much appreciated...

Charlotte

Charlotte -
Do you get the error when uploading the picture (as an attachment to your post) or later on when updating your profile?

When updating my profile. I can attach the picture to the first reply and see the picture embedded in the message.
When I go back to reply to the message a 2nd time to see if everything's working, that's when I get the error message.

It looks like you are putting a link to the post in your profile instead of a link to the picture.

You should have this link (without the spaces) in your profile:
