but is there a way to delete attachments from old posts w/out bumping the thread up? I should have removed the pics back when the thread was current but didn't. If it's possible to do it now w/out the bumping the thread, that would be great!

I don't believe there is. It's considered an edit and any edit will bump the post up. To my knowledge, there's no way around that. :(
