Do you just contact the company and ask them to give a group discount?

Yes, just ask them if they participate in Co-ops. They may want a tax ID no. (or not). Ask about price breaks too (levels where the price decreases as the quantity increases).

I also think that there should only be one person contacting
the company.

For example, if I organized a group discount with Company A,
then I think I should be the contact person who would organize
any subsequent group discounts with Company A.

If not, then poor Company A is going to have lots of random
requests for group discounts all coming from the same group of people.
I think that would be a little frustrating for a company.

Plus, a little frustrating for the original person who made
contact with the company and who is trying to maintain some
sort of working relationship in hopes of another co-op.

Just my opinion! :)

Once you get the company you can create a yahoo group for your co-op. They have easy to use databases etc and its free. Don't feel bad if you feel the need to put a limit on the number of people participating, it can be so overwhelming!

For those of you who have done a co-op with a tax ID, can you share how it worked? I have a resale permit but am not in the baby clothing business. If I contact a baby shoe company and use my resale ID to purchase at the wholesale price, how do I handle the sale to the coop members? Obviously I wouldn't be charging them more than what the vendor charges so no one ends up paying any sales tax?

Just wanted to see if someone has info. to share before I even consider doing anything.

Thanks.
