Adjusting cooking time from cake or loaf to muffins

Is there an easy way to know approximately how long to bake muffins or mini muffins based on the cooking time specified for a cake or bread?

I will usually cut the time in 1/3. For example, if a loaf requires 45-60 min, then I'd start at 20-35 min for medium muffin cups and 12-15 min for mini muffin cups. Extra large muffins usually require at least 30-35 min at 350 degrees.

I don't know if there is a formula, but I just guestimate low, then insert a wooden toothpick into the center of the middle cupcakes and see if it comes out clean. If it's very goey, they'll bake at least another 10min. If it's just slightly sticky, then I'll do another 5 min or so. From there, I just mark the correct time, note it on the recipe card, and set the same time for remaining batches.

I just did this for carrot muffins the other day. It said to bake in med-large muffin pan for 30-35min at 350 and I used mini muffin cups and I started at 10 min, and all batches were done at 12min.
