My sister is a bit of a gourmet, and there's a Penzey's Spices shop near where I take Corinne to the children's museum (but isn't in typical driving distance for my sis). I'm thinking about doing a gift basket of spices and stuff for her for Christmas.

What would you suggest? Any gadgets to throw in too??

Thanks!!!

You really can't go wrong with Penzey's. :) Is your sister more into baking, or cooking, grilling? They have all kinds of things for different types of cooks. They have regular spices (chili powder, oregano, etc.) and they also have blends (sandwich sprinkle, grill blends, etc.) so you can really get whatever you want. They also have a bunch of already made up gift boxes, or you can do your own. This year for my dad we did a few of the make your own kind since he asked for some specific spices.

Of the top of my head, I have really enjoyed the vanilla, the 4 peppercorn blend, the red pepper, the hot cocoa, the Sandwich sprinkle (great on warm, buttered pasta - DD loves this!), and a few other regular spices. This year, I asked for a lot more of the blends and I'm really excited about them.

Oh, and they don't sell any gadgets other than pepper mills and they also have a magazine you can subscribe to (my dad LOVES this magazine!).

I have found the staff to be wonderful in helping to pick out the right spices at all the stores I've been to, so I say you should stop by and ask what they might rec for your sisiter - and don't forget to open the glass jars above each spice and smell! Mmmmm yummy!!

Oh, and if I rememebr correctly there was a thread recently about what everyone liked most from Penzey's. Did you try a search for Penzey's? I'll try to find the link.

Ooh, I wasn't really using the boards in July, so I wouldn't have known about that thread, and didn't think to do a search! Bad me!! :)

Thanks for that thread! :)
