Can we start a thread of recipes to make with your kids? DH made soft pretzels with Gwen over the weekend and it was a huge hit. She loves to help in the kitchen, and this recipe really lends itself well to little helpers. Any others folks would like to share?

Our Girl Scout troop used to make this all the time. I think the recipe came from the Head Start program in our area. Fun to make and quite yummy!

Ingredients:
6 Tbs Water
1 tsp Yeast
dash Table salt
1 tsp Sugar
1 c Flour
1/4 c Sharp cheddar, shredded
1 Egg white
1 Tbs Water
Kosher chunky salt

Directions:
Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, salt, stir in flour. Add cheese. Knead slightly until cheese clings. Let kids knead and form into shapes. Place on greased sheets. Brush with egg whites and water. Sprinkle with salt. Bake at 425 for 10-15 min.

Notes:
Great project to make with kids.
Triple recipe to use an entire packet of yeast.

DD and I had fun making the granola recipe in the Salad People cookbook. It is similar to Alton Brown's recipe (link below), but it uses honey instead of maple syrup. I used a combination of dried fruit (raisins, peaches, figs, apricots, prunes, pears) and nuts/seeds (pecans, flax seed, pumpkin seeds, coconut).

I chopped up the nuts and dried fruit and just had DD help me measure and mix. Yummy!!!
